I don't believe anyone has to be defined by their past. It is often the case that life events are the very things that prevent people from living the life they both want and deserve. I have over 20 years experience working with people to assist them in overcoming substance use problems and ten plus years working with other mental health related problems. I would be honored to assist you in your journey to freedom from whatever it is that is holding you back.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said," What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us". I believe that we do not have to live in fear of the past or fear of the future. Living in the now allows us to be free.
Exploring and identifying, the things within us, basically the lies we believe about self, is the gateway to learning to live in the now. Consider the fact that we ARE every age we have ever been. Each day has helped form who be believe we are today.
For nearly 13 years, I have worked alongside individuals encountering issues with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, self-esteem, grief/loss, life adjustments, and stress. Working in collaboration with clients, I seek to empower them to work through uncomfortable experiences and achieve their goals. I strive to help individuals find, develop, and utilize their strengths in order to face the issues of their lives directly, with compassion, and without self-judgement.
My approach is integrated, allowing me to utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of individuals. I use a framework that focuses on how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions work together to better help individuals understand and engage with the experiences bringing them to counseling.
Life can be really messy and challenging at times, and we don't need to walk through it alone. Whatever you may be healing from - traumatic experiences, substance use, relational issues, anxiety, depression, or difficult family dynamics - I am positive we can find strength to navigate the path forward.
I always use a trauma-informed model to ensure comfort and safety in my sessions, taking inspiration from other modes of therapy like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy, while maintaining a Person-Centered focus.
